In 1996 I took my first women’s self-defense class because I was fed up with feeling afraid. It felt like there were a million and one road blocks to being free to move through the world without fear. I wanted to learn how to confront all of the “what if’s” and violence I had experienced as a woman. That class changed the course of my life. I saw women move with focused power, determination and grace. We yelled. We hit stuff. It was so much fun! Sharing the experience of moving with a calm fierce power with other women was incredibly freeing. I knew instantly that I wanted to play a part in creating safe spaces for women to experience that same freedom and empowerment.┬áSince then I have taught and trained martial arts and self defense professionally for the past 22 years.

For over 18 years I was the Director of Kids Programs at One With Heart Martial Arts School in Portland, Oregon. Today, I am a 5th degree black belt in Pukulan with training experience in Escrima and Northern Shaolin styles.
